The Not Without Our Children Project

It Takes a Village

Every protective mother suffering from domestic violence makes the same vow: I will do whatever it takes to keep my children safe. The system answers by forcing her to fight for them in court — year after year — as the price of leaving. Our name is our answer back. We will escape abuse, but not without our children.

The Problem

Leaving is supposed to be the way out. The system makes it the beginning of a second fight.

The path out of abuse runs through courts that are unaffordable, disbelieving, and stacked against the protective parent. Victims are priced out of justice, mothers who report abuse risk losing custody, and international law is routinely turned against families fleeing violence.

1 in 3

women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence from an intimate partner. (WHO)

1 in 2

mothers alleging abuse lose custody when the father counters with a "parental alienation" claim. (Meier, GW Law study of 4,000+ cases)

59–66%

of Hague Convention cases end with children ordered returned to the abuser's country — even with evidence of violence.

$100k+

what complex or cross-border custody litigation can cost — justice priced as a luxury good.

Statistics are drawn from published research and will be formally cited before launch.

What We Do

Six programs. One wraparound promise: no one fights alone.

1 · The Legal Center

Free, elite legal representation — a paid panel of leading DV and family law attorneys, a dedicated international unit for cross-border and Hague cases, and the litigation support that wins.

2 · Law & Policy Advocacy

Reform custody law, restrict the misuse of "parental alienation" claims, pursue Hague Convention reform, and attack the cost barrier itself.

3 · Children's Healing Services

Evidence-based trauma care — EMDR and TF-CBT — delivered without waitlists or session caps, plus support groups and school and life advocacy.

4 · The Financial Lifeline

Grants and zero-interest loans for the true cost of escape: filing fees, experts, relocation, housing, therapy, and lost income.

5 · CyberProtection

Technology as a shield: stalkerware sweeps, account recovery, cyber-forensics for court, lawful threat monitoring, and physical security technology.

6 · The Survivor Network

Mentor mothers, peer groups matched by situation and jurisdiction, and a protected community — the village at the heart of our name.

Our Story

Founded by a survivor. Built for every mother without her advantages.

"I faced my abuser with advantages most victims never have — and it was still almost impossible to break free. If escape was nearly impossible for someone with every resource, then for most victims it is simply impossible. This organization is funded by what I overcame, and it exists so that others will not have to overcome so much."
